NEPAL TREK AND TEMPLES

  • Want to see the unique beauty of the Nepalese Himalayas, but don't want too much of an arduous hike? This might just be the trip for you. Starting and ending in Kathmandu, this will have you hiking up high everyday through National Parks, pine forests, mountainside towns, temples and pilgrimage sites, with plenty of golden sunsets and mesmerizing Himalayan panoramas along the way.

  • The route is designed to be accessible though, so you don't need to be a pro to take the challenge. As long as you are above-average fitness you'll be trekking in no time. Participants must be able to walk 5-7 hours per day (with frequent rest and photo stops). There will be a porter to carry your luggage, so you only need to carry your backpack and water bottle.

  • You will stay in hillside lodges typical of the environment with all the facilities you require to be an adventurer, but one who can still enjoy some comfort. Rooms are all twin-share, with communal facilities.

  • For the mesmerizing view of the towering Himalayas, the best seasons to trek in are autumn (October and November) or in spring (April and May). February to early April is the so-called burning season, when forest fires and smoke from “slash-and-burn” farming across Nepal’s southern plains create a haze in the valley.

  • The temperature will range from 10-20 degrees Celsius in the cooler months and 16-25 degrees Celsius in the warmer months.

trekKING up the Kathmandu valley

This adventure will take you into the dense forestland of Shivapuri National Park, through sprawling settlements and terraced farmland, past spectacular panoramas over the Kathmandu Valley. You’ll witness sunrises and sunsets of the sparkling majestic Himalayas and visit sacred temples along the way. It’s a trip you’ll remember for a lifetime.

Nepalese culture and holy sites

Discover the traditional Newari culture of Dhulikhel, visit the Kali Mandir — a temple dedicated to the fiery Hindu Goddess Kali. Then, experience the Buddhist pilgrimage shrines at the site of the fabled sacrifice of Mahasattva at Namobuddha.

FOOD FOR THE SOUL

You can’t experience traditional Nepalese culture without trying momos — the best dumplings in the world! Filled with seasoned meat or vegetables, steamed and served with a side of chutney or a thick, soupy sauce made with tomatoes, chili peppers, and cilantro - these dumplings will burst open in the mouth and fill the nostrils with sharp, floral, warm, and earthy spices. They’re sure to warm your bones after a long, invigorating hike!

What to pack

While there will be porters to carry your luggage, there is a weight limit of 30 lbs. You will require your own sleeping bag, towel and hiking boots - try to pack light with lots of layers. You can purchase hiking equipment in Kathmandu the night before the start of your trek — an option many hikers take so that they don’t need to travel with their hiking equipment if they are traveling before or after their trek.
